The first UFC PPV of the year goes down in Boston when UFC 220 Happens to the TD Garden on January 20.

The top of the card includes the two name conflicts, as Stipe Miocic tries to derail the hype train of Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier looks to prove there are levels vs Volkan Oezdemir.
After those 2 events, most casual fans likely will not know another fighter with this card. Luckily, I really do and I’m here to help you recognize the struggles and possibly pad your bankroll.
Miocic has built his match around his world-class boxing abilities. He always probes with his long jab, as he waits for his chance to counter. That having been said, Miocic might be better if he’s fighting in a phone booth with more energy in his brief punches than many humans have, period. In addition, the reigning champion is a former D1 wrestler that has adapted his style excellently to MMA. Generally, these skills are used defensively but Miocic may also use them offensively to wear down opponents. In case Miocic has one big negative, it’s his defense. He’s got a terrible tendency to take a hit to provide a hit.
Ngannou is the epitome of physical evolution. “The Predator” is a mountain of a guy with an 83-inch reach and maybe the hardest natural punching power I’ve ever seen. A lot of individuals point to his power and natural athleticism but Ngannou’s awareness and feel for when to counter-strike is that of someone well beyond his years. The grappling match is still raw technically but his normal ability helps him bully his rivals from the clinch. The actual question is whether Ngannou has the capability to get from his back when he gets taken down from an elite wrestler.
In the event that you were to ask me who the fighter is, I would say Miocic. And I hate not financing a champion as an underdog. However, his tendency to carry unnecessary punches is a recipe for disaster vs Ngannou. 1 minor error by Miocic means this battle is finished and that feels like a”when” rather than an”if.”
